Abba's "Waterloo", Led Zeppelin's "Stairway To Heaven" and Kraftwerk's "Autobahn" - global hits from the 1970s that (almost) everyone knows. "The 70s Revue" by the Institute of Music is dedicated to these and many other hits from this period.
More than 40 music students, under the direction of Peter Vollhardt and Peter Janßen, have created the revue, which will celebrate its premiere on Friday, 18 July at 8.00 pm in the university auditorium (Haarentor campus, building A 11). To mark the 40th anniversary of the University of Oldenburg, they will be reviving the atmosphere of the founding decade. Further dates are Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 July, both at 8.00 pm.
The music of the 70s: it's rock, it's flower power and, of course, it's disco. Musical styles that are of course a must for the revue. For over two semesters, the music students in the "Music, Scene, Theatre" module have been working on the revue - one of the Institute of Music's biggest productions to date. Rehearsals began last winter term. The arrangements, the choreography, the costumes - everything was created by the students themselves.
The programme includes a disco medley with singers, a rock band, strings and wind instruments. Die-hard disco fans - who are welcome to turn up in a 70s outfit - should practise the choreography of the Bee Gees classic "Staying Alive".
