The 70s revue

  • Students from the Institute of Music worked on the "70s Revue" over the course of two semesters.

Flower power, rock and disco

Abba's "Waterloo", Led Zeppelin's "Stairway To Heaven" and Kraftwerk's "Autobahn" - global hits from the 1970s that (almost) everyone knows. "The 70s Revue" by the Institute of Music is dedicated to these and many other hits from this period.

Abbas’s “Waterloo”, Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven” and Kraftwerk’s “Autobahn” – global hits from the 1970s that (almost) everyone knows. The Institute of Music’s “The 70s Revue” is dedicated to precisely these and many other hits from that era.

More than 40 music students, under the direction of Peter Vollhardt and Peter Janßen, have put together the revue, which will premiere on Friday 18 July at 8.00 pm in the University Auditorium (Haarentor campus, Building A 11). To mark the 40th anniversary of the University of Oldenburg, they are bringing the spirit of the decade in which the university was founded back to life. Further performances will take place on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 July, both at 8.00 pm.

The music of the 1970s: That’s rock, that’s flower power and, of course, that’s disco. Musical styles that are, naturally, an essential part of the revue. Over the course of two semesters, music students on the ‘Music, Scene, Theatre’ module have been working on the revue – to date one of the Institute of Music’s largest productions. Rehearsals began as early as last winter semester. The arrangements, the choreography, the costumes – everything was created in-house.
The programme includes, for example, a disco medley featuring singers, a rock band, strings and brass. Die-hard disco fans – who are welcome to turn up in authentic 1970s outfits – should start practising the choreography for the Bee Gees’ classic ‘Staying Alive’.

Exclusive partners of the 70s Revue in the university’s anniversary year are the VR Foundation of the Volks- und Raiffeisenbanken in Northern Germany and Volksbank Oldenburg eG. Tickets are now on sale.

Tickets: €12, concessions €6 at: www.die70errevue.uni-oldenburg.de
