University Society 2015 with a positive balance sheet - over 1,100 members
"Our main goal, building bridges between the university and the north-west region, is getting better every year," explained Michael Wefers, Chair of the Universitätsgesellschaft Oldenburg. e.V. (UGO), at today's Annual General Meeting. The positive balance he can draw is also expressed in the number of over 1,100 members. This makes the UGO one of the largest university societies in Germany.
Among the 22 events organised or co-organised by the UGO in 2015, two new formats attracted particular attention from young business leaders and university academics: the Impulse Forum and the Innovation Dialogue. They help to strengthen networks and bring innovations to companies, emphasised Wefers. However, the UGO is by no means only concerned with promoting business-relevant areas. Education and culture are just as important for society. This is why UGO is just as happy to provide financial support for projects in the humanities and cultural sciences. The UGO has even formed its own circle of friends to promote music.
The UGO's ambassador system is proving to be effective. In the meantime, 17 ambassadors represent the UGO in the districts and cities of the north-west region and establish links with the university. This is also due to the fact that the establishment of the School of Medicine has further stimulated interest in the University and raised its already outstanding position in the region, said Wefers. It could only be emphasised again and again that the great successes of the north-west region in the new millennium were only possible with the university.
Vice President Prof. Dr Gunilla Budde received a special honour. She received the Silver Coin of the University Society for her special commitment to forging closer networks between the region and the university.
