Information from the BMWK on the National Climate Protection Initiative

Since 2008, the Federal Government has been using the National Climate Initiative to initiate and fund numerous projects that contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Its programmes and projects cover a broad spectrum of climate protection activities: From the development of long-term strategies to concrete assistance and investment-based funding measures. The National Climate Initiative thus helps to anchor climate protection on the ground. Consumers as well as companies, municipalities and educational institutions should benefit from it.

Will soon provide more space for two-wheelers on campus: the new bicycle parking facility, shown here in a simulation by architects Droste Droste & Urban. Droste Droste & Urban

It will soon be ready: from 9 September, the university's new covered, two-storey parking facility on Uhlhornsweg can be used. It offers space for 340 bicycles. The official opening will be accompanied by a programme of bike-related events.

Oldenburg students, university employees and campus guests can look forward to 340 new bicycle parking spaces in dry conditions: the parking facility is centrally located on Uhlhornsweg in front of building A1, near the lecture theatre centre and library, is covered and has two floors. There is also an integrated service station where you can get help with technical problems. The university, which is committed to climate-friendly mobility, is thus increasing the number of parking spaces for bicycles to a total of 4,776.

Opening ceremony on 9 September

The facility will be available from 9 September and will be officially opened on the same day with a supporting programme: From 11.30 a.m. to 12.45 p.m., the university's climate protection management team will present the university's current climate protection measures with a poster show. The Allgemeine Deutsche Fahrrad-Club (ADFC) will be offering interested parties the chance to have their bicycles coded, making them less attractive to potential thieves. The team organising Oldenburg's annual "City Cycling"event (this year from 6 to 26 September) will also be presenting itself and inviting people to take part.

The costs for the bicycle parking facility amount to around 1.4 million euros, of which around 340,000 euros were covered by funds from the National Climate Protection Initiative of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection (BMWK).
