Topic: Necessities and limits of economic growth
Almost 250 up-and-coming academics and young managers from the worlds of business, culture and administration took part in the "Impulsforum", which was offered for the first time by the Universitätsgesellschaft Oldenburg e.V. (UGO) and sponsored by the Landessparkasse zu Oldenburg (LzO) on 5 March in the lecture hall centre of the University of Oldenburg. In addition to discussing socio-political issues, the forum is primarily intended to improve networking among young academics in the region. The Oldenburg growth critic Prof Dr Niko Paech and the Director of the Hamburg Institute of International Economics (HWWI), PD Dr Christian Growitsch, spoke controversially about this year's topic of the event "Necessities and limits of economic growth - a critical discourse". The subsequent panel discussion was followed by a get-together in the foyer of the lecture theatre centre to get to know each other. Swea von Mende, initiator and deputy Chair of the UGO, emphasised that the UGO wanted to create a platform for the exchange and networking of young professionals with this new type of event. This is not only in the interests of those addressed, but also in the interests of regional development. If the willingness of the people involved to communicate and cooperate is increased, this could benefit everyone. At the same time, she hopes that the central role that the university plays in the development of the city and region will become increasingly clear in business, culture and administration. She is sometimes amazed at how little is known about the university, especially at middle management level in the economy. This needs to change.
