KIBUM meets Sweden

"Hej! KIBUM meets Sweden" - this is the motto of the 42nd Oldenburg Children's and Young People's Book Fair, which the University of Oldenburg is organising together with the City of Oldenburg from 5 to 15 November.

"Hej! KIBUM meets Sweden" - this is the motto of the 42nd Oldenburg Children's and Young Adult Book Fair, which the University of Oldenburg is organising together with the City of Oldenburg from 5 to 15 November. The PFL cultural centre (Peterstraße 3) will be transformed into a bookscape with around 2,500 newly published German-language children's and youth media for the expected 30,000 visitors of all ages. The fair will be dedicated to Swedish children's literary traditions, which is why the Swedish Embassy in Berlin has assumed patronage. Contemporary Swedish children's and young adult authors have also been invited, including Martin Widmark, Ulf Nilsson, Rose Lagerkrantz, Ulf Stark, Mats Wahl and Pija Lindenbaum. The programme for this year's KIBUM comprises 227 events, including the exhibition "Augen-Blick. Orientation in narrated and real worlds" by the university's Research Centre for Children's and Young Adult Literature. Children and students have experimented with seeing and perceiving. The result is an exhibition that explores and brings to life the real and narrated worlds of children and young people. Both traditional and new media are used to see and perceive things - with the help of QR codes, animated films and interactive games. The exhibition can be seen from Sunday, 6 November to Tuesday, 15 November, daily from 10.00 to 18.00 in the Artothek (Peterstraße 1). The KIBUM supporting programme includes two further exhibitions, which can also be seen in the Artothek: "Across Table and Benches - The Unique Picture World of Ilon Wikland" and "From Bullerbü to Lönneberga - Picture Book Art by Katrin Engelking". Under the direction of the City Library, "KIBUM meets Sweden - The Reading Book" was created as a gift for all primary school classes visiting KIBUM. Didactic materials are available for teachers to download: Exhibition guides and rallies at the exhibition centre can be used to prepare for and follow up a visit to KIBUM. "Sweden media boxes" for nurseries round off the didactic offer.

The Oldenburg Children's and Young Adult Book Fair takes place from 5 to 15 November in the PFL Cultural Centre (Peterstraße 3), daily from 9.30 am to 6.00 pm. Admission is free.
