Children's university autumn semester starts

The KinderUniversität opens its doors again: the autumn semester begins on Wednesday, 5 September at 4.30 pm with the lecture "Letters become words, become pictures - what happens in the mind when we read?".

German scholar Prof Dr Iris Winkler will reveal this secret, and the eight to twelve-year-old KinderUni students will be amazed - because reading is much more than just putting letters in a meaningful order. How is it that sequences of letters make sense to us? And why does everyone have their own images in their head when they read? The scientist also explores these questions together with the children in the lecture.
The KinderUni lecture "What is there to discover under water? Robots conquer the sea" on Wednesday, 12 September at 4.30 pm. Here, the young students will dive into the depths of the oceans together with marine researcher Prof. Dr Oliver Zielinski.
On Wednesday, 19 September at 4.30 p.m., the lecture will then delve into the recent past. In his lecture "Growing up while the war rages - How children experienced the Second World War", historian Prof Dr Malte Thießen will take KinderUni students back to the time of their peers seventy years ago.

Tickets (2 euros each) for the three KinderUni lectures in the autumn semester are available from Nordwest Ticket GmbH on 0421/363636 and 01805/361136 (14 c/min.) and at the NWZ offices.

Admission to the lecture hall centre on Uhlhornsweg is from 4.00 pm. Accompanying adults can follow the event as usual on a screen in the foyer of the building. The Malteser Hilfsdienst will provide security on site.
If you would like to familiarise yourself with the lecture topics now, you can do so in all Oldenburg district libraries and in the youth library (Peterstraße). Special book tables have been set up here.

The media partners of the KinderUniversität Oldenburg are the Nordwest-Zeitung, NDR 1 Niedersachsen and Radio Bremen Vier. The project is supported by Landessparkasse zu Oldenburg (LzO), Nordmetall, the business association "Der Kleine Kreis e.V." and "Junge Öffentliche".
