How does invention work? And why do inventors sometimes find it difficult to get others excited about their good ideas? Fascinating questions like these are also on the programme for the tenth year of the Oldenburg KinderUniversität. Advance ticket sales for the spring term begin on 7 February.
The first lecture for children aged eight to twelve will be given on Wednesday 6 March by Oldenburg-based social scientist and innovation researcher Prof. Dr Jannika Mattes. The young students will then learn all about invention and how brilliant ideas are turned into new products that can then be bought in shops.
The spring term continues on Wednesday 13 March. On this day, Computing Science professor Prof. Dr Sebastian Lehnhoff will address the question: ‘What does an anthill have to do with a smart electricity grid?’. Researchers can learn a great deal from animals – for example, when they want to develop new electricity grids to ensure people continue to be well supplied with energy in the future.
The lecture ‘Hydrogen – The Mysterious Gas’, originally scheduled for 27 February, has unfortunately had to be cancelled due to the speaker falling ill.
The lectures begin at 4.30 pm each day. Doors to the Lecture Theatre Centre (A14) on the Haarentor campus open at 4.00 pm. Under the umbrella of the KinderUniversität, there are once again numerous other opportunities this year to discover the world of science: for example, at the university’s chemistry laboratory (CHEMOL), the Sinnesschule, the Centre for Child Research, the physiXS teaching and learning laboratory, or online via ‘Physics for Kids’ and the Lernwerkstatt. The Oldenburg Science Centre (NAWI-Haus) also offers courses in physics, chemistry, biology and technology. Similarly, the ‘Green School’ activity days in the Botanical Garden and the ‘School of the Senses’ invite children to get involved. Children can experience art up close and get creative themselves in the workshops at the Kunsthalle Emden and the Horst Janssen Museum. The Oldenburg State Theatre is presenting the results of two theatre projects.
