The DAAD project "Export of the Training and Master Programmes Sustainable and Environmental Informatics in the Sub-Sahara" has started its work.
The Division of Business Informatics / Very Large Business Applications (VLBA) at the Department of Computing Science, headed by Prof Dr Jorge Marx Gómez, is responsible for coordinating the project.
The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) is funding the project with around 300,000 euros. It will run for two years and aims to implement master's degree courses and training programmes in the field of business environmental information systems (BUIS) at universities in Ghana, Tanzania and Mozambique.
"Business environmental information systems are spreading - after Latin America and Asia, we are now entering the third continent. Apparently, corporate environmental protection and environmental informatics are becoming more and more important, even in the so-called 'third world'," explains Marx Gómez. The Oldenburg business informatics experts are building on their many years of experience in exporting degree programmes.
In close cooperation with their partners in the target countries, they develop subject- and target group-specific curricula, study modules and training units. The results of a survey of graduates from African universities and local companies are also taken into account.
Prof Dr Horst Junker from the consulting and service company IMBC GmbH, Berlin, will ensure the practical relevance. IMBC advises companies in the field of environmental and information management and has many years of experience with corporate environmental information systems.
