Music between the seasons

What does the transition from autumn to winter sound like? On Thursday, university students will present their interpretations of the seasonal change under the title "Autumn Leaves - Concert between the Seasons".

Under the title "Autumn Leaves - Concert between the Seasons", students from the University of Oldenburg will bring the year to a musical close on Thursday, 26 November from 5.00 pm in the university auditorium (Haarentor campus, building A11).

Various ensembles, including the University Big Band, will present their interpretation of the seasonal change in the spirit of the well-known jazz standard, demonstrating their diversity. Also involved as organisers: the Oldenburg University Society (UGO), which has formed its own circle of friends for the Institute of Music. Admission is free.

The concert will be opened by the a cappella singing choir Paraplü, which draws on a broad repertoire of classical and modern songs. The percussion ensemble Schlagwerk Ossietzky masters a mix of ethnic and pop music through to electro percussion and the World Music Ensemble combines Western and non-Western musical worlds. The evening will conclude with a performance by the Uni Big Band, which specialises in Afro-American music. Prof. Dr Susanne Binas-Preisendörfer will host the evening programme. There will also be a small reception for visitors after the concert.

Michael Wefers, Chair of the University Society, said that he was very impressed by what had been created at the Institute of Music in Oldenburg, explaining why the UGO was co-organising the concert. It is important to the UGO to promote the Institute. Subjects such as music and art cannot be valued highly enough because they promote the creativity of young people, which is of extraordinary importance for the development of society.

Autumn leaves is the second of a planned series of concerts entitled "Music between the Seasons", in which the university's ensembles present themselves.
