Network for alumni

Networking with old acquaintances, friends or former fellow students and professors - that is the aim of the OldenburgConnect alumni platform. Since the beginning of the year, alumni of the university have been able to register on the social network, maintain contacts and expand their personal circle of acquaintances.

More than 2,500 former students from over 30 nations are united in the university's alumni programme. This global network is now also digitally represented on Oldenburg Connect (OLC). The platform enables direct interaction between members and thus opens up new opportunities to get to know people, exchange ideas and utilise the skills and connections of colleagues and industry experts.

What makes OLC special compared to other social networks? It is aimed exclusively at alumni of the University of Oldenburg. "We are still in the early stages with OLC, but after just a few weeks over 200 of our alumni had registered on the platform. The response from alumni has been exceptionally positive so far," reports Aeilt Poppinga, Alumni Relations Coordinator at the university. "We are planning a few more activities for this year, which will also run via OldenburgConnect."

Researchers, teachers and other members of the university are also welcome on OLC - to get in contact with their former students and colleagues and to exchange ideas about everyday life and career topics. For its part, the university uses the platform to provide alumni with comprehensive information: For example, OLC features pictures, public comments, selected reports and news articles, interfaces to the university's social media channels and more.

In order to build a trusting network, first and last names are requested when registering. If you wish, you can register directly via your Facebook or LinkedIn profile. In this way, users can transfer data from the networks to their OLC profile and do not have to enter all the information manually. All registrations are checked before activation to ensure that only alumni and members of the University of Oldenburg end up on OLC. OLC is also easy to use via smartphone: In addition to a mobile website, the platform is also available as an app (currently only in English).
