A new further education programme at the University of Oldenburg aims to equip teachers with the tools they need to implement the goals of inclusion in the classroom.
"Special Education: Pedagogy and Didactics for Learning and Emotional and Social Development Impairments" is the full name of the training programme. It is run by the Didactic Centre (diz) in co-operation with the Institute of Special Needs Education and Rehabilitation for teachers at lower secondary and primary level.
Schools in all Federal States are facing reorganisation: In future, disabled and non-disabled children will increasingly be taught together. This will not only place greater demands on individual teachers, but also increase the need for teachers with inclusive qualifications. The University of Oldenburg is taking on a pioneering role with its two-year further education programme in special education. Under the direction of Prof Dr Manfred Wittrock, Prof Dr Clemens Hillenbrand and PD Dr Heinrich Ricking, lecturers from the Institute of Special Needs Education and Rehabilitation teach the latest findings in inclusive education. The focus of the qualification is on trialling relevant strategies and concepts as well as increasing subject-specific skills. The further education is flanked by processes of collegial counselling. Successful participants in the further education programme receive a university certificate.
