News for digital teaching

The state of Lower Saxony is funding two new projects in which teachers at the University of Oldenburg are working with partners to develop free learning materials on education management and inclusion.

Videos for student teachers on the topic of inclusion and an online course on strategic management in educational organisations: In two projects, university lecturers from the University of Oldenburg are working with partners at the University of Vechta and Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences to develop free teaching and learning materials - known as open educational resources - in order to expand digital teaching. The Lower Saxony Ministry of Science (MWK) is funding the projects "Open Educational Resources for education and science management in the context of digitalisation" and "Action strategies for heterogeneous classes - OER for teacher training" for 18 months with around 170,000 euros each.

In the project on educational management, Prof. Dr Heinke Röbken and Prof. Dr Olaf Zawacki-Richter from the Institute of Educational Sciences and the University's Centre for Lifelong Learning (C3L) are working together with Prof. Dr Frank Ziegele, Professor of Higher Education and Science Management at Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences and Managing Director of the Centre for Higher Education Development (CHE). The aim of the project is to develop digital teaching and learning materials for the management of educational and scientific institutions that are free and freely accessible.

These should help education managers in future to adapt to the changing requirements of universities and other educational organisations, for example in quality management, digital teaching or the digitalisation of administration. The team plans to digitally prepare teaching materials from the degree programmes "Education and Science Management" at the University of Oldenburg and "Higher Education and Science Management" at Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences for a broad target group - from individual videos and learning units on specific topics to complete online courses.

In the second Oldenburg project, Prof Dr Clemens Hillenbrand from the Institute of Special Needs Education and Rehabilitation is working with Prof Dr Marie-Christine Vierbuchen from the University of Vechta to develop university didactic materials on the topic of inclusive education. Teaching videos, expert interviews and animations are intended to teach student teachers how they can better support pupils with learning difficulties and behavioural problems in the classroom.

As part of the co-operation between the special education and inclusive education departments, the two university lecturers are primarily addressing students studying to become general teachers at primary, lower secondary and secondary modern schools, who often have to teach inclusive lessons later on without being explicitly trained to do so. Hillenbrand and Vierbuchen want to sensitise future teachers to dealing with heterogeneous learning groups and provide them with prevention and intervention options for the classroom. The materials are intended for long-term use in various subjects, teaching qualifications and phases of teacher training.
