Prof Dr Paul Mecheril has accepted the professorship for Intercultural Education at the Institute of Educational Sciences at the University of Oldenburg.
Mecheril studied psychology and philosophy in Trier, Bielefeld, Vienna and Münster. He received his doctorate in psychology from the University of Münster in 1991 and habilitated in 2001 at the University of Bielefeld in the subject of educational science with a thesis on "(Multiple) Belongings in the Migration Society". Prior to his appointment at the University of Oldenburg, Mecheril was a professor at the Institute of Educational Sciences at the University of Innsbruck (Austria). His teaching and research focus includes the topics of migration and education, intercultural pedagogy, racism research and pedagogical professionalism.
