The University of Oldenburg and the district of Oldenburg are planning a university contact centre at the district administration in Wildeshausen as a point of contact for prospective students from the region. A letter of intent to this effect was signed today by the President of the University of Oldenburg, Prof Dr Dr Hans Michael Piper, the Vice President for Studies and Teaching, Prof Dr Gunilla Budde, and District Administrator Carsten Harings.
"The university already has close ties with the region - we want to strengthen this even further with the future contact point," said President Piper. It is important to provide potential students with the best possible information about the degree programmes on offer.
According to the plans, the district administration will appoint an employee to act as a contact person for students and their parents at the contact centre. "This person will act as a kind of link to the university," explained Vice President Budde. "As a university, we will provide suitable information material for events organised by the contact point and regularly inform the district about information days or guest student options."
District Administrator Harings added that many young people have so far left the district for their studies because there is no university located there. "We would like to better inform them about the possibility of studying in the region and at the same time fulfil our responsibility as a school authority for young people after they leave school."
The contact point is initially set up as a three-year pilot project. Following this phase, both sides want to evaluate their experiences.
