Supporting particularly talented and committed young people in their studies for a year - that is the aim of the Deutschlandstipendien scholarships. 48 students at the university who have outstanding credits, are involved in voluntary work or are caring for their children or a relative in need of care will receive the funding this academic year.
"The Deutschlandstipendien are intended to give you a tailwind for your studies - so you can concentrate more on laying a good foundation for your academic appointment," said Prof Dr Gunilla Budde, Vice President for Academic Affairs, at the ceremony to present the scholarship holders with their certificates. She thanked the sponsors who had made the awarding of the scholarships possible in the first place with their financial commitment.
The Deutschlandstipendium amounts to 300 euros per month and lasts for one year. Half of the sum comes from the federal government if the university succeeds in raising the other half from private donors. A total of 344 students applied for a Deutschlandstipendium at the University of Oldenburg. When selecting the recipients, it was not only outstanding credits that counted - as stipulated by the federal government. The committee also explicitly took into account the assumption of responsibility in the family, such as bringing up children. Among the applicants, who came from all Schools, were 37 students with children. Applications from degree programmes in economics were most frequently represented.
