A treasure hunt in a submersible, a rollercoaster ride with the Gulf Stream and exciting experiments on wind and solar energy - there is plenty to discover during the Easter holidays in the physiXS school laboratory on the Wechloy campus.
From 18 to 24 March, six students and doctoral students from the working group of physics education specialist Prof. Dr Michael Komorek will be offering exciting insights into the physical world of the climate and the ocean in three different courses. The free programme is aimed at pupils aged between 10 and 14. Registration is still possible until 11 March.
"On a treasure hunt with your own submersible" is the name of the first course aimed at young physicists aged between ten and twelve. On Friday, 18 March, from 10.00 am to 1.00 pm and on Monday, 21 March, from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm, they will carry out experiments on floating, swimming and sinking in water and may even find an underwater treasure in the process.
The second course is for 12 to 14-year-olds: they work with solar cells and wind turbines and take part in a competition. The title of this course, which takes place from Tuesday 22 to Thursday 24 March from 10.00 to 13.00, is "Solar and wind energy: investigating sustainable energy generation with your own experiments".
The third course, "On a rollercoaster ride with the Gulf Stream - what makes water move", is about ocean movements and how they influence our climate. It is aimed at 11 to 13-year-olds and takes place from 22 to 24 March from 14:00 to 17:00.
