The Universitätsgesellschaft Oldenburg e.V. (UGO) has a new Chair: Stefanie Abke, Managing Director of the EWE Foundation, replaces Wiebke Schneidewind.
The general meeting of the Universitätsgesellschaft Oldenburg e.V. (UGO) has elected Dr Stefanie Abke as its new Chair. Dr Abke, who holds a doctorate in history, is ideally qualified for this position: She has been responsible for the non-profit EWE Foundation for 20 years and is well networked in the region - for example as a member of the Soroptimist International society or on the advisory board of the Oldenburgische Landschaft.
Abke succeeds Wiebke Schneidewind, who held the office of UGO Chair for three years. Swea von Mende was re-elected to the UGO board as deputy, Marcel Schmidt for finance and Reinhard Schenke as secretary. "The new office fills me with joy, but also with great respect. I am therefore very happy to be able to work with an experienced Board team," explained the 56-year-old.
Abke sees her main task as being to network UGO even more closely with business and politics in the region. The successful application for three clusters of excellence is proof of the university's potential. "We want to support this path with the UGO to the best of our ability in the coming years," says the new Chair.
Abke studied political science, history, cultural studies and sociology at the Free University of Berlin and then completed her doctorate in Berlin and Bremen with a scholarship from the Volkswagen Foundation. She has headed the EWE Foundation since 2006.
