The series of events "In the footsteps of Carl von Ossietzky" will focus on the eponym of the University of Oldenburg and the history of the Emsland camps in lectures and an excursion.
The series with Kurt Buck, Director of the Esterwegen Memorial, is part of the "40 Years of the University of Oldenburg" programme and is organised by the Center for Lifelong Learning (C3L).
The series kicks off on Tuesday, 23 September, 10.15 to 11.45 a.m., at the university's Lifelong Learning Campus. Buck will use letters that Ossietzky wrote to his wife Maud and daughter Rosalinde to provide insights into Ossietzky's imprisonment in the Esterwegen concentration camp. A second lecture on Tuesday 30 September, 10.15 to 11.45 a.m., will focus on the "protective custody prisoners" Heinrich Kroes, Werner Fink and Adolf Bender. They recorded their encounters with Ossietzky, prisoner 562, in memoirs, drawings and documents. An excursion to the Esterwegen Memorial will follow on Friday, 10 October.
