Internationally attractive

The University of Oldenburg is highly attractive to international researchers. It climbed to 29th place in the latest Humboldt Ranking – a significant indicator of the level of international co-operation.

The Humboldt Ranking shows how many researchers have come to Germany over the past five years on a grant from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation – and where they have most frequently carried out their research stay. With 25 Humboldt scholarship holders, the University of Oldenburg ranked 29th out of a total of 79 universities nationwide. In the previous ranking in 2012, it was still
ranked 43rd.

“With this result, the University of Oldenburg has even outperformed universities of excellence. It shows that we are on the right track with our internationalisation strategy and have been able to further strengthen academic exchange in recent years,” emphasises Acting University President Prof. Dr Katharina Al-Shamery.

The top three places were once again taken by the Free University of Berlin, Humboldt University of Berlin and Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich. The ranking takes into account the number of visiting stays by leading international researchers and early-career researchers, and relates this to the total number of professorships at the respective university.
