Wide range of offers during the "climate strike week"

The Oldenburg group of the Students For Future movement is taking part in the nationwide "Climate Strike Week" from 25 to 29 November with lectures, workshops, discussions, an exhibition and a bicycle demonstration.

Oldenburg students are taking a stand for the climate: the Oldenburg group of the Students For Future movement is taking part in the nationwide "Climate Strike Week" from 25 to 29 November with lectures, workshops, discussions, an exhibition and a bicycle demonstration.

Under the title "Public Climate School", the diverse programme aims to draw attention to the problems of climate change. "We endorse and support the commitment of our students," said Prof Dr Sabine Kyora, Vice President for Studies, Teaching and Gender equality. The university management has asked lecturers to relate lecture and seminar topics to the climate crisis as much as possible in the coming week. Seminars will not be on strike.

The climate strike week will begin on Monday, 25 November at 12.00 noon in the university auditorium (Haarentor campus, building A11, Ammerländer Heerstr. 69) with a welcoming address by Kyora, among others. The organisers will also present the programme. Afterwards, the philosopher Prof. Dr Tilo Wesche will give a lecture on "The Rights of Nature". Over the course of the week, further lectures by lecturers and students will be held at various locations throughout the university, including on the topics of climate protection in companies, global climate policy and hydrogen as an emission-free means of propulsion. In addition, cinema screenings, a bicycle workshop and a clothes swap party are planned. An exhibition with facts about climate change and information stands from various sustainability organisations will be on display in the foyer of the canteen on Uhlhornsweg from Monday to Friday.

The week will conclude on Friday with the traditional "bicycle demonstration" for the Global Climate Strike, which will begin at 12.00 noon at Oldenburg Central Station. The students will meet at 11.30 a.m. in front of the lecture theatre centre (building A14).
