Application

The application period for an Erasmus+ stay begins 12 months before the academic year in which the stay is planned. This means that students can apply from 1 October for the following winter and summer semester. The first application deadline is 10 January.

Did you miss the deadline of 10 January? Write to the Erasmus+ coordinator. You can apply for remaining places for the following summer semester until 1 June.

Application procedure

(to Departmental Coordinator Dr Joachim Stöter; please note that the procedure may be different for other coordinators)

The application deadline is 10 January. Acceptance or rejection letters for the desired study place will be sent out by 1 February.

  1. First fill out the online application for an Erasmus study place (uol.de/erasmus-study-abroad/online-bewerbung/)
  2. Submit a PDF of this online application together with a short letter of motivation (no longer than one page) and a CV (including a list of language skills) to the Erasmus Officer Dr Joachim Stöter. The documents should be submitted by 10 January at the latest. What criteria are used to allocate places? Whether you get a place at the university of your choice depends on your language skills and your personal motivation. A good knowledge of English (between B1 and C1, depending on the university) or knowledge of the language of instruction (e.g. Spanish or Turkish, if the programme is offered in this language) is essential. Previous knowledge of the language of the country in which you are planning a semester abroad is not necessary if the language of instruction is English, but is generally an advantage. Are you planning a semester abroad in Sweden? A basic Swedish course will give you a good advantage. Otherwise, you have the option of taking a language course in the local language on site - this is highly recommended. You should also provide a convincing argument as to why you would like to study abroad and why you have selected this specific university or universities. Of course, you can apply for several universities. In this case, please only write one complete letter of motivation and explain which university is your priority 1, 2, etc.
  3. At the beginning of February, the Erasmus+ officer will provisionally confirm your Erasmus+ place. The Erasmus+ officer informs students who have applied and signs the online application. This must then be submitted to the IO (International Office) by 15 February at the latest for places for the winter semester and by 1 June for remaining places for the summer semester: https://uol.de/erasmus-bewerbung) by 1 June for remaining places for the summer semester.
  4. The IO will then nominate you to the partner university so that your application can be submitted to the partner university.
Please also check the Erasmus+ checklist. It lists all further steps in detail:
    Erasmus+ Checklist (https://uol.de/wege-ins-ausland/formulare)
  5. Find out about the selection of courses at the partner university. Regarding the agreement of Learning Agreements, please also contact the Erasmus representative Dr Joachim Stöter (https://uol.de/paedagogik/web/web-team/stoeter-dr-joachim).

If you would like to have the courses you attended abroad recognised, the Learning Agreement must be agreed with the Student Advisory Service:
