Application
The application period for an Erasmus+ placement begins 12 months before the academic year in which the placement is planned. This means that students can apply from 1 October for the following winter and summer semesters. The first application deadline is 10 January.
Have you missed the 10 January deadline? Please contact the Erasmus+ coordinator. You can apply for any remaining places for the following summer semester until 1 June.
Application procedure
(with Departmental Coordinator Dr Joachim Stöter; please note that the process may differ for other coordinators)
The application deadline is 10 January. Notifications of acceptance or rejection for your preferred study place will be sent out by 1 February.
- First, complete the online application for an Erasmus study place (uol.de/erasmus-study-abroad/online application/)
- Submit a PDF of this online application, together with a short letter of motivation (no longer than one page) and a CV (including a list of your language skills), to the Erasmus coordinator Dr Joachim Stöter. The documents must be submitted by 10 January at the latest. What criteria are used to allocate places? Whether you are offered a place at the university of your choice depends on your language skills and your personal motivation. A good command of English (between B1 and C1, depending on the university) or proficiency in the language of instruction (e.g. Spanish or Turkish, provided the degree programme is taught in that language) is essential. Prior knowledge of the language of the country where you plan to spend your semester abroad is not necessary if the language of instruction is English, but is generally an advantage. Are you planning a semester abroad in Sweden? A basic Swedish course will give you a significant advantage. Otherwise, you have the option of taking a language course in the local language whilst there – this is highly recommended. Furthermore, you should provide a compelling explanation of why you wish to study abroad and why you have made a selection of this specific university or these specific universities. Of course, you can apply to several universities. In this case, please write just one comprehensive personal statement and specify which university is your first choice, second choice, and so on.
- In early February, the Erasmus+ coordinator will provide provisional confirmation of your Erasmus+ place. The Erasmus+ coordinator will inform students who have applied and sign the online application. This must then be submitted to the International Office (IO) by 15 February at the latest for places in the winter semester and by 1 June for remaining places in the summer semester: https://uol.de/erasmus-bewerbung).
- The International Office (IO) will then submit your nomination to the partner university so that your application can be processed there.
Please also check the Erasmus+ checklist. It sets out all the further steps in detail: Erasmus+ Checklist (https://uol.de/wege-ins-ausland/formulare) - Find out about the selection of courses at the partner university. Regarding the arrangement of Learning Agreements, please also contact the Erasmus Coordinator, Dr Joachim Stöter (https://uol.de/paedagogik/web/web-team/stoeter-dr-joachim).
If you wish to have the courses you have attended abroad recognised for credit, the Learning Agreement must be discussed with the academic advisory service:
