Physicists receive Heinz Neumüller scholarships
The three physics doctoral students Susanne Heinecke, Stephan Ernst and Jens Zahnow have been selected as scholarship holders of the Heinz Neumüller Foundation. The scholarship provides doctoral candidates at the University of Oldenburg with monthly financial support of 400 euros for one year. Graduates from School II or V of Computing Science, Economics and Law, Engineering or Natural Sciences were eligible to apply. A total of six scholarships were offered.
CeWe-Color founder Heinz Neumüller donated one million DM for young scientists at the University of Oldenburg. The foundation, named after the entrepreneur Heinz Neumüller (deceased in 1999), is intended to benefit doctoral candidates from the fields of Computing Science, Economics and Law, Engineering or the Natural Sciences. According to Neumüller's wishes, the foundation should only grant monetary and non-cash benefits as well as scholarships that do not serve to secure the minimum subsistence level. Funding will be given to doctoral candidates who have demonstrated "ability, initiative and responsibility".
Neumüller announced his decision to establish the foundation on the occasion of his 75th birthday in May 1995, when he was also honoured with the Grand Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany for his entrepreneurial achievements and social commitment.
After the war, he turned his small company in Oldenburg into the leading "photo finisher", which now operates throughout Europe and employs 3,500 people in 19 large and small laboratories.
