Julia Gottschall, a doctoral student at ForWind, the centre for wind energy research at the universities of Oldenburg and Hanover, has reached the final of the European "Shell She Study Award" competition for young scientists. She came 4th in the final round. The award, presented by the Shell Foundation, is aimed exclusively at female applicants. Gottschall, whose dissertation was supervised by Prof Dr Joachim Peinke (Institute of Physics), dealt with the topic "Influence of wind turbulence on the power output of wind turbines". In her work, she has developed models that can be used to reproduce changes in the power output of wind turbines in the range of seconds.
