On 1 May 2008, Dr Stephan Barth took over the position of Managing Director at ForWind, the centre for wind energy research at the Universities of Oldenburg and Hanover. He took over from Prof. Dr Joachim Peinke, who was managing ForWind on an interim basis and continues to represent the centre as spokesman. Barth graduated as a physicist in the field of turbulence. He then completed his doctorate in the field of high-resolution flow measurement technology for use in turbulent flows. Most recently, he worked as a project leader in the wind energy department of the Dutch Energy Research Centre (ECN). In addition to the development of new analysis methods and validation, Barth was responsible for the globally unique research institution "Scaled Wind Farm", a research wind farm for the investigation of wake and park effects.
