On Wednesday, 28 October 2009, more than 800 pupils and teachers from the entire north-west region took advantage of the University of Oldenburg's offer to find out about the courses on offer in the subjects of physics and mathematics. The twelfth "Day of Physics" and the ninth "Day of Mathematics" took place together for the ninth time this year. Seven pupils who had taken part in the 2009 subject paper competition received book prizes donated by scientific book publishers. The physics presentations focussed on the topics "Physics of the moon landing" and "Remote sensing of the earth". The main mathematics lecture by Prof Dr Guido Schneider from Stuttgart dealt with the "Mathematics of Tsunamis". In addition, the Institute of Mathematics and the Institute of Physics demonstrated with field reports, experiments and a poster exhibition that both subjects are attractive, fun and offer very good career prospects.
