Night of Science
Poster competition for the "Night of Science"
The University of Oldenburg has now organised a poster competition for pupils of all ages to mark the European "Science Night". The competition is looking for a picture on the topic of research. It can be a depiction of a scientist in a laboratory, of the earth in a hundred years' time or of the moon flight for everyone in the world of the day after tomorrow - there are no limits to the imagination. Painted pictures, photos, collages or computer-generated posters can be submitted. Individuals or classes can take part. The closing date for entries is Friday, 28 August 2009.
A jury will select one winner each for the age groups 8 to 11, 12 to 15 and 16 to 18 from the artworks submitted. Individual prizes include a family ticket for a visit to the Universum in Bremen, the Klimahaus or the Emigration Centre in Bremerhaven, including travel. Classes can win 100 EURO. The prizes will be awarded on 25 September 2009 by Lower Saxony's Science Minister Lutz Stratmann. The winning posters will also take part in a Europe-wide competition, giving them the chance to promote the Night of Science throughout Europe next year.
The Night of Science, in which many cities participate with festivals and celebrations, takes place every year on the 4th Friday in September in 27 European countries. In 2009, the University of Oldenburg will be taking part for the first time. On Friday, 25 September 2009, the university will open its doors from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. and present its teaching activities, laboratories, lecture halls, libraries and workshops.
