Dr Peter Heering, a research associate at the Institute of Physics at the University of Oldenburg since 1996, has accepted the professorship for Physics and its Didactics at the University of Flensburg. Heering studied physics and chemistry in Oldenburg, where he also gained his doctorate. After his traineeship in Wilhelmshaven, he worked at the University of Oldenburg in physics teacher training. In 2006, Heering completed his habilitation in the history of science at the University of Hamburg and held the professorship for physics education at the University of Augsburg in the 2006/2007 academic year. Together with the EWE Foundation, the physics didactics expert set up the state competition "Schüler experimentieren" in Oldenburg, which he has headed since 2004. Heering was Scholar in Residence at the German Museum in Munich and was elected to the Council of the International History, Philosophy and Science Teaching Group (IHPST) in 2007. His research focus is on the history of experimental physics, the integration of historical content into physics education and the development of model experiments for teaching modern technologies.
