Regional group of the young DPG launched

The newly founded regional group of the young DPG was officially launched with an opening event on Friday, 30 October 2009. Young physicists from all over Germany are organised in this network, which is currently divided into 20 regional groups.

At the kick-off event in Oldenburg, there were three exciting presentations by speakers. Dr Christoph Bert from GSI in Darmstadt began with a lecture on tumour therapy for moving organs using heavy ion radiation. Two physicists, Dr Wolfgang Arnold, Managing Director of AFT Microwave, and Karl Banke, Managing Director of Iternum GmbH, then reported on their careers and professional fields. The event, which was opened by the Director of the Institute of Physics, Prof. Dr Christoph Lienau, was attended by 35 interested students and a number of lecturers.

Further events are to follow in the future with specialised lectures and reports from physicists about their careers. On 11.12.2009, the first excursion to the EWE Centre for the Future in Cloppenburg will take place. Two physicists will present EWE's research there. Interested parties are very welcome.
