Summer School on "Computer Simulations" - Scholarships awarded
Computer simulations are becoming increasingly important for science. In response to this rapid development, the University of Oldenburg is offering the second international summer school "Modern Computational Science" from 9 to 20 August 2010. It is being organised by Prof. Dr. Alexander Hartmann, Professor of Theoretical Physics, and Dr. Reinhard Leidl, Office of School V, and will be held on the Wechloy campus.
20 years ago, computer simulations were the exception in the natural sciences. Today, almost a quarter of all published research work is based on calculations using computer simulations. The Summer School therefore focuses on the fundamentals of programming, algorithms and data analysis. There are also four focus areas: bioinformatics, quantum chemistry, biodiversity and flow simulations.
The Summer School is aimed at third-year students and doctoral candidates from the natural sciences, Computing Science and Mathematics. Interested parties from industry can also take part. The EWE Foundation is supporting the conference. For example, it awards scholarships that enable participation at low cost (100 euros for a fortnight including accommodation etc.). A limited number of students from Oldenburg can attend the Summer School free of charge. The lectures will be held in English and published in a conference proceedings. There will also be a supporting programme with excursions to Bremen, Jever and Norderney.
Registration by 1 June 2010 on the Internet: www.mcs.uni-oldenburg.de
