Foreign students honoured for special commitment
Students Isong Assam from Cameroon and Abdulkadir Çoban from Turkey were honoured at a ceremony in the University Guest House in Oldenburg on 3 December. Assam, who is studying "Engineering Physics", was honoured with the university's award for international students who do voluntary work. Çoban received the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) prize for outstanding achievements and social commitment by international students. Both prizes are endowed with 1,000 euros. The Oldenburg University prize is awarded for special voluntary work. Assam, who is a student on the Master's degree programme in Engineering Physics, impressed the award committee with his commitment to the Cameroon Student Association Oldenburg (CamSAO), of which he was Chair. Assam is also working on the development of co-operations between the Oldenburg Institute of Physics and the Cameroon universities in Buea and Yaounde. His interest in the internationalisation of society is also evident in his active membership of the international student organisation AIESEC. The DAAD prize honours Çoban's achievements in his Master's degree in Integrated Media. He is convinced that education plays a central role in integration and is therefore committed to helping children with a migration background. He is active in the Dialog Lernkreis e.V. association, where he tutors children. Çoban also offers a robotics course at the Kreyenbrück secondary school, which is very popular with the pupils.
