Large crowds at the "Day of Physics" and "Day of Mathematics"
On 9 November, more than 700 pupils and teachers from the entire north-west region took advantage of the University of Oldenburg's "Physics Day" and "Mathematics Day" to find out more about the subjects on offer in mathematics and physics.
Visitors were able to see the diversity of the subjects for themselves in lectures and laboratory tours, workshops and an information café as well as an exhibition. The physics lectures focussed on "Physics in Space - Gravitational Waves, Black Holes & Co" and experimental physics using the example of wind energy. Prof. Dr Alfred K. Louis (Saarbrücken) gave the keynote lecture in mathematics on the topic: "From the baking tube to the X-ray tube - all mathematics". The Institutes of Physics and Mathematics also used student reports, experiments and a poster exhibition to demonstrate that both subjects are fun and offer excellent career prospects. As in previous years, pupils were honoured with book prizes as part of a competition for specialist papers.
