Awakening the spirit of research - Oldenburg participation at the IdeenExpo
The IdeenExpo in Hanover aims to ignite the spirit of research in children, teenagers and young adults. They can discover science and technology there from 27 August to 4 September. The university is represented at the exhibition with a total of three stands.
In co-operation with the Robert Dannemann School in Westerstede, the "Technical Education" section of the Institute of Physics will be teaching visitors how to use CNC milling machines. Visitors can also practise their patience on a game of yakkolo or make marble run models from a physical point of view. In the yellow measuring pile replica of the Institute of Chemistry and Biology of the Marine Environment (ICBM), visitors can find out about the latest findings in marine research in the exhibition "Traces in the sea - how invisible molecules in the sea regulate our climate". The stand of the Institute of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IRAC) is themed "Chemistry shines". It focuses on novel chemical compounds that make energy-saving lamps and LEDs shine.
Staff from the "Open University" will provide information on counselling and support for the transition to university and on the recognition of academic appointments and further education qualifications. The OFFIS computer science institute will also be represented with a stand. The Energy and Semiconductor Research Department of the Institute of Physics, the Water Ecology Working Group of the Institute of Biology and Environmental Sciences (IBU) and the Energy Education project of the Didactic Centre (DIZ) will be taking part in the IdeenExpo with workshops. On 2 September, Thomas Greve, research associate at ForWind, will be competing in the final of the Science Slam. He won the fifth preliminary round in Hanover in mid-June with his presentation "Hydrothermal ... What?".
