"Lasers and quanta" is the topic of a workshop for school pupils that the Institute of Physics is organising in cooperation with the Cäcilienschule Oldenburg on Saturday, 5 February 2011, 9.00 am to 6.00 pm, at the University of Oldenburg (Wechloy campus, room W2 1-148). The event is open to pupils from the region from Year 10 onwards who are interested in physics. The organiser is Dr Ludger Hannibal, private lecturer at the Institute of Mathematics and teacher of Mathematics, Physics and Computing Science at the Cäcilienschule.

Participants will gain insights into modern physics beyond the school curriculum. The workshop aims to stimulate their interest and encourage them to study. It offers a varied programme with experiments and work in small groups. The pupils will be supervised by student teachers from the Institute of Physics. Materials, magazines and catering are provided as the workshop is sponsored by the Landessparkasse zu Oldenburg. Participation is free of charge.
