Award for Christoph Lienau

High honour for Christoph Lienau

Oldenburg physicist appointed Fellow of the Optical Society of America

Oldenburg. Oldenburg physicist Prof Dr Christoph Lienau, head of the "Ultrafast Nano-Optics" working group and Director of the Institute of Physics at the University of Oldenburg, has been named a Fellow of the Optical Society of America. This honour is awarded annually by the Optical Society of America for special achievements in the field of optics and photonics. Lienau receives it for his outstanding contributions to ultrafast optics, near-field optics and plasmonics. The award will be presented in June 2013 at the Conference on Lasers and Optoelectronics, the world's largest optics conference, in San José, USA.

"This is a great honour for the members of my research group, but also for the environment in School V - School of Mathematics and Science - and especially for the university's technical workshops, which always provide us with excellent support," says Lienau. "The award is further proof that the work we started in Oldenburg is increasingly being recognised internationally."

Lienau's research group develops and uses state-of-the-art spectroscopy and microscopy techniques with extremely high time resolution to track and elucidate how electrons move in complex nanostructures.
