Diplom physicist Daniel Nickelsen, a member of the Statistical Physics working group, has been awarded one of this year's five doctoral scholarships from the Heinz Neumüller Foundation. The scholarship honours outstanding academic and doctoral achievements by young scientists in the natural sciences, engineering and economics.

The award ceremony took place on 18 April 2012 on the premises of the CeWe-Color company, which was founded by the foundation's namesake in Oldenburg in 1961.

The Heinz Neumüller Foundation awards four to six scholarships per year to doctoral candidates at the Carl von Ossietzky University. The application deadline is 31 October each year.
