Oldenburg. Attention, eight to twelve-year-olds - those who are quick now will fly to the moon in March! How long will the journey take? Why you can't fly by aeroplane? And how does a rocket work? Physicist Prof. Dr Andreas Engel knows - and will tell the KinderUni students on Wednesday, 7 March in the lecture "Can you live on the moon?" The (almost) real voyage of discovery of the celestial body starts at 4.30 pm in the university's Audimax. Earth and the moon were formed together a long time ago - in a huge cosmic collision. Today they are very different from each other. Images of the moon show a dusty surface without rivers, lakes, plants or wind. Nevertheless, the moon is an exciting destination because its exploration is also important for life on earth. The young scientists learn all about weightlessness, rocket launches and the temperatures on the moon. By the way: Kuni, the KinderUni mascot, has also been there - as a film proves! If you would like to go to the moon with us, tickets are available for 2 euros from Nordwest Ticket GmbH on 0421/363636 and 01805/361136 (14 c/min.) as well as from the NWZ offices. Admission to the lecture theatre centre on Uhlhornsweg is from 4.00 pm. Accompanying adults can follow the event as usual on a screen in the foyer of the building. The Malteser Hilfsdienst will provide security on site. Anyone who would like to familiarise themselves with the topic of the lecture now has the opportunity to do so in all Oldenburg district libraries and in the youth library (Peterstraße).
