Oldenburg. Prof. Dr Joachim Peinke, physicist at the University of Oldenburg and board member at ForWind, the centre for wind energy research, was appointed head of the Dynamics and Statistical Physics Division (DY) at the 76th annual conference of the German Physical Society (DPG). Peinke is the first experimental physicist to head the organisation. His research focus includes the physical description of turbulence and its effects on wind energy. In his new role, the physicist would like to integrate turbulence research more closely into the field of dynamics and statistical physics.

Peinke, who was appointed to the University of Oldenburg in 1998, studied physics in Tübingen, where he also completed his doctorate and habilitation. He then worked at the Institute for Low Temperature Physics (C.N.R.S.) in Grenoble (France) with a research grant from the German Research Foundation (DFG). Peinke was a Heisenberg scholarship holder of the DFG and conducted research as a research assistant at the University of Bayreuth. He has been a member of the board of ForWind since 2008.
