Future Prize of the Federal President to Oldenburg hearing researcher
The Oldenburg hearing researchers Prof. Dr Dr Birger Kollmeier (pictured 2nd from left) and apl. Prof. Dr Volker Hohmann (right) as well as Dr Torsten Niederdränk from Siemens AG (left) were awarded the €250,000 Future Prize of the Federal President on 28 November 2012.
The statement by Federal President Joachim Gauck reads: "The scientists have succeeded in creating the technological basis for innovative hearing systems in which two hearing aids are coupled in both ears and matched to each other according to the individual hearing impairment. This technology can significantly improve the quality of life of hearing impaired people and make it much easier for them to participate in social life."
"The Institute of Physics congratulates the winners from the bottom of its heart! This is another outstanding success for hearing research in Oldenburg," says Institute Director Prof Dr Christoph Lienau.
