Oldenburg. In November last year, Prof Dr Dr Birger Kollmeier, Prof Dr Volker Hohmann - both from the Institute of Physics at the University of Oldenburg - and Dr Torsten Niederdränk, Siemens AG, received the 2012 German Future Prize for the project "Binaural hearing aids - spatial hearing for all". The German Museum in Munich is hosting a permanent exhibition on the Future Prize, which attracts over one million visitors a year. The exhibition presents the ten most recent award-winning projects and showcases the winners in a "Hall of Fame".

The "Binaural Hearing" module has also been on display there since the beginning of October. It highlights the central facets of Kollmeier's award-winning project and presents the principle of binaural hearing and the transfer of this principle to modern hearing aid technology. The highlight of the module is the hearing demonstration of "difficult" acoustic environments in real time with and without binaural hearing: In a kind of computer game, you can convince yourself of the effectiveness of binaural hearing aids with your own ears. In addition, examples show the development of hearing aids - from the ear trumpet to the binaural hearing aids of the digital age.
