Oldenburg. Prof Dr Matthias Wollenhaupt (48), previously a university lecturer in experimental physics at the University of Kassel, has been appointed to the professorship of experimental physics at the Institute of Physics at the University of Oldenburg.
Wollenhaupt studied physics at the University of Göttingen and completed his doctorate in Bielefeld with work carried out at the German Aerospace Centre in Göttingen. At the Max Planck Institute of Chemistry in Mainz, he researched radical reactions in atmospheric chemistry using laser photolysis and laser-induced fluorescence. In 2004, he habilitated at the University of Kassel in the field of femtosecond spectroscopy with customised ultrashort laser pulses.
In 2002, he received the Innovation Award from the Gesellschaft für Innovation Nordhessen (GINo) for his patented invention "Adaptive feedback-controlled material processing with ultrashort laser pulses".
The physicist's research focus is on femtosecond spectroscopy and ultrafast dynamics.
