Physicist Hui Khee Looe receives Behnken-Berger Prize for radiation research
Oldenburg. Dr Hui Khee Looe, scientist in the "Medical Radiation Physics" working group at the University of Oldenburg and medical physicist at Pius Hospital Oldenburg, has been awarded the "Behnken-Berger Prize" at the annual conference of the German Society for Medical Physics (DGMP). He received the 15,000 euro award for his outstanding dissertation in the field of medical radiation research.
"This is a great honour for Hui Khee Looe," emphasised Prof. Dr Björn Poppe. The medical physicist, who heads the working group and supervised the young scientist's dissertation, notes that the award also demonstrates the achievements of the Oldenburg working group in the field of dosimetry.
Born in Malaysia in 1981, Looe came to Germany in 2000 and studied Engineering Physics at the Institute of Physics at the University of Oldenburg and Emden / Leer University of Applied Sciences. He joined Poppe's research group in 2007 and has been working as an expert in medical physics at Pius Hospital Oldenburg since 2008. He completed his dissertation with "summa cum laude" in 2012. The DGMP honoured him with the PTW Dosimetry Prize back in 2011. The young scientist is working on developing methods of signal and image processing in order to be able to use them for dose determinations in water and ultimately in the human body. The aim is to improve the accuracy of medical irradiation.
