"Diverse Excellence 2012": Oldenburg physics is one of the best in Germany
Oldenburg. The subject of physics at the University of Oldenburg has an excellent international position, is well funded and offers very good study conditions: This is certified by the Centre for Higher Education Development (CHE) in its special evaluation "Diverse Excellence 2012".
The evaluation is based on data collected by the CHE from universities and universities of applied sciences for the mathematics and natural sciences subjects in the 2012 university ranking. The CHE has rebundled various indicators in order to be able to make statements in the dimensions of "research", "internationality", "application orientation" and "student orientation".
83 universities were taken into account. Conclusion: Oldenburg Physics is one of the top universities in Germany. It took eighth place in the "application orientation" dimension. In the dimensions "internationality" and "student-orientation", physics is among the top twelve universities. In terms of third-party funding per researcher, it ranks fourth - only surpassed by the universities in Constance, Jena and Hamburg. In terms of third-party funding per researcher, which comes from the private sector, physics in Oldenburg is even the leader. Good news for students: Oldenburg is also in the top group in terms of support and studyability.
"These are excellent results that confirm that we in Physics and the entire Faculty are on the right track," says Prof Dr Martin Holthaus, physicist and Dean of School V - School of Mathematics and Science. The Institute of Physics is currently being developed with a view to the future. "This is not only evident in a major project such as the turbulent wind tunnel that will be built on the Wechloy campus, but also in the establishment of the 'Models of Gravity' research training group and the accelerated expansion of nano-energy research." As a result, Oldenburg is increasingly becoming a top address for students looking for a first-class education in a subject that is not easy, but exciting and relevant to the future.
