Oldenburg. Christin Marie Sajons, doctoral student in physics didactics, receives an award from School V for her Master's thesis entitled "Construction and testing of an epochal lesson on the ambivalence of plastics - focus: development of a teacher's guide", which will be presented during a ceremony at the Didactic Centre at the end of June.

The work is part of a co-operation project funded by the DBU with the Hermann Lietz School and the Wittbülten Environmental Education Centre, both on Spiekeroog. In 2015, Ms Sajons developed an excellent interdisciplinary lesson together with other students and teachers from the Hermann Lietz School and tested it in a three-day project. In terms of content, the focus is on the ambivalence of plastics, their great benefits for medicine, technology and everyday life and their harm to humans and nature through macro and micro waste. The lessons have brought together different disciplinary perspectives on a complex problem area and reconstructed the topic in a didactically appropriate way for pupils in years 5-7. In the written version of the work, Ms Sajons succeeds in an exemplary manner in bringing the lessons together with the UNESCO educational concept of Education for Sustainable Development ESD and also in developing an innovative concept for a hypertext-orientated teacher's guide.

The didactics departments of School V agree that the work is written at the highest level and is an excellent representation of the various approaches of the School's subjects to anchoring ESD in schools and teacher training. Ms Sajons is an up-and-coming, talented young scientist with a wide range of interests.

Ms Sajons has been working as a doctoral student in physics didactics since January 2016; in future, she will be investigating physics learning processes at extracurricular learning venues such as school laboratories as part of basic didactic research. She also plays a key role in university teaching.
