The University of Oldenburg has been designated as a ‘bicycle-friendly employer’ according to EU-wide standards. Promoting sustainable transport is part of the university’s climate strategy aiming at climate neutrality in 2030.
At the beginning of September, the University of Oldenburg received a ‘silver’ certificate from the German Cyclists' Association (ADFC). This recognises the university’s measures to promote cycling. Today, 55 per cent of staff and 60 per cent of students cycle to the Haarentor and Wechloy campuses already.
The university actively supports students and employees in shifting to sustainable mobility. There are a large number of bicycle parking facilities with a total of 4,330 spaces. Employees and students can also repair broken bikes themselves at Campus Haarentor at a service station which is permanently accessible. Another service available for students is the DIY bike workshop at Campus Haarentor. Here volunteering students and professional bike mechanics help students to repair their bikes.
Promoting sustainable transport is part of the university’s climate strategy aiming at climate neutrality in 2030.
In order to make the university even more bicycle-friendly, rental bikes will be made available at multiple departments all over university in the next year. Additionally, the university is already planning another bicycle service station on the Wechloy campus close to the PPRE lecture rooms.
More information on the university’s plans to promote sustainable transport can be found on the university’s webpage.
