Women in Science
I am Scientist Podcast
As part of the International Day of Women in Science, SCoP is collaborating with the "I am Scientist" podcast, in which female scientists make their research, career paths and experiences visible.
In season 4, episode 3, Dr Mareike Daeglau (postdoctoral researcher in neuropsychology) and Ilona Gerbsomer (Master's student in clinical audiology) talk openly about the challenges and uncertainties of motherhood during academic training and the balancing act between study, work and family. The interview shows that there is no "right" way to reconcile family and academia.
In season 4, episode 4, Dr Lisa Straetmans and Dr Maren Bertheau talk about their experiences of becoming a mother and pursuing an academic career at the same time. They discuss the challenges of balancing pregnancy and early motherhood with a PhD and academic work, and whether there is a "right time" for parenthood in academia. They also talk about practical aspects such as conferences with children, support networks and a new understanding of productivity and success as parents.
Many thanks to Mica Pec and Motahare Delbari for their efforts in producing the two podcast episodes for SCoP.
