Demonstrator D4
Virtual audiovisual scenes and sound field reproduction technology for hearing acoustics
Demonstrator D4 combines the work across different projects towards a comprehensive, exchangeable and verified set of virtual reality methods for different applications in hearing acoustics, such as psychoacoustic research, hearing aid evaluation, auditory modelling and audiology.
First, a versatile, integrated format to describe audiovisual environments (room models) and the interactive scenes therein (sources, receivers, trajectories, actions) was designed that allows exchange across systems and labs.
Three scenes were designed, documented, verified and open-source published in Zenodo: an underground station, a pub and a living room. In addition, room acoustic simulation tools have been advanced which are presented with the scenes:
- Interactive rendering of the underground and pub scenes via loudspeakers in the anechoic chamber at Technical University of Munich using the rtSOFE software
- Comparison of the living room lab at the University of Oldenburg to its virtual scene including the simulation of diffraction in RAZR
- Rendering of the underground scene via loudspeakers in an anechoic chamber at the University of Oldenburg in comparison to the rendering in a room with the Acoustic room transformer.
