Review of the Teaching and Learning Day on 29 November 2018

What is good teaching? What excites me about my degree programme? These and many other questions were the focus of the second Teaching and Learning Day on 29 November 2018. The aim of the day was to provide an opportunity to exchange ideas about teaching and learning at our university.

School III - School of Linguistics and Cultural Studies and School V - School of Mathematics and Science kicked things off with a joint programme in the morning, including a workshop entitled "Plagiarism prevention: similarities and differences between two subject cultures".

At lunchtime, the focus of the programme shifted to the canteen foyer, where lecturers, students and all other university members were able to find out more about research-based learning at information stands run by various university institutions, short presentations of digital tools and a poster exhibition. The afternoon programme kicked off with the opening and the subsequent lecture "Laughter as a source of energy - humour as a potential in teaching and learning" by Katrin Hansmeier (German Institute of Humour). In two further presentations, the speakers then dealt with the topics: "Trend topic "digital education" - implications for universities" (Prof. Dr Ira Diethelm) and "Making teaching more accessible - changing perspectives for a diverse image of teachers" (Martin Podszus).

Parallel to the lectures in the BIS hall, there were also a number of workshops and lectures from various university institutions that invited participants to listen and participate. In the evening, the traditional "Teaching Prize" award ceremony took place, followed by a reception in the BIS Hall. The theatre collective "eigen.art" provided the atmosphere.

For the first time at TdLL 2018, there was also the opportunity to exchange ideas about teaching and learning throughout the day via Twitter.

Impressions of the first "Day of Teaching and Learning" can be found here.
