For the first time in the German-speaking world, the encyclopaedia Music and Gender brings together gender-relevant topics in music and its history. A historical section provides insights into the history of music from the Middle Ages to the present day. The lexical section contains factual articles on key terms in musicological gender research as well as personal articles on selected women from central areas of music history: music performance, training, instrument making, composition and music historiography. Young academics from the CvO University were also involved as authors, as were young academics in the realisation and editing of the encyclopaedia. The encyclopaedia has met with a broad public response.
