Research Interests
I study the biogeochemistry of dissolved organic matter (DOM) in marine and terrestrial environments. My main tools are molecular biomarkers and ultrahigh-resolution mass spectrometry (FT-ICR MS). With my research I aim to understand the sources and sinks of organic matter in estuaries and its linkage to environmental conditions and microbes. I am working in projects that investigate the transformations of terrestrially derived organic matter in the ocean, and the biodegradation of petroleum compounds from anthropogenic and natural sources.
