Information on participation & data protection
Voluntariness and pseudonymity
Participation in the study is voluntary. You will not receive any remuneration. You can terminate your participation in this study at any time and without giving reasons, without incurring any disadvantages.
The data collected as part of this study (this includes contact details, demographic data, language biographical data and audio data) and personal communications will be treated confidentially. For example, those project staff who have personal data through direct contact with you are subject to a duty of confidentiality. Furthermore, the publication of the results of the study will be in pseudonymised form, i.e. without your data being personally identifiable.
Procedure of the study
You can make the audio recording of your translation yourself. If you would like the support of the project team or just have minor queries, we will be happy to help you by email or telephone. Personal data is collected by filling out the contact form when uploading your translation. Mandatory fields are marked with an asterisk. After uploading your data and files, you will receive a confirmation of receipt to the email address you have provided.
Data protection
The collection and processing of your personal data is pseudonymised at the Institute for German Studies using a number and without giving your name. There is a password-protected electronic coding list that links your name to the number. The coding list is only accessible to the experiment and project leaders; this means that only selected co-workers can link the data collected with your name. The password-protected electronic coding list will be destroyed after completion of the data evaluation, but no later than 31 December 2022. Your data will then be pseudonymised. This means that it will no longer be possible for anyone to link the data collected to your name without comparing a voice sample. The pseudonymised data will be stored for at least 10 years. As long as the coding list exists, you can request the deletion of all data collected from you. However, once the coding list has been deleted, we will no longer be able to identify your data record without matching a new voice sample. We can therefore only fulfil your request for deletion of your data for as long as the coding list exists.
Duration of processing
After evaluation of all data and completion of the study, but at the latest after the research purpose has ceased to exist, your data will be pseudonymised as soon as possible - in particular before publication for scientific purposes (e.g. specialist articles, conference contributions, scientific databases [open data repositories]). The controller is obliged to do this in accordance with Section 13 (2) sentence 1 of the Lower Saxony Data Protection Act (NDSG). Pseudonymisation means that no one can assign your data to your person. Your data is then no longer "personal" within the meaning of data protection legislation.
Use of the data
This study is for research purposes only. Your data will not be passed on for commercial purposes.
Your personal data will not be passed on to third parties without your consent. In any case, personal data will only be passed on to the French project partner to the extent necessary. This means that only your audio recordings and translations, together with the location assignment, will be sent in pseudonymised form to the project Sounding Atlas of Minority Languages in Europe (Dr Philippe Boula de Mareüil (Université Paris-Saclay & Interdisciplinary Laboratory of Digital Sciences) so that they can be added to the atlas. Your personal data and audio recordings may also be further analysed for linguistic research purposes. Any further processing will always be in pseudonymised form. In addition, your audio recordings can only be played for demonstration purposes in events with a limited number of participants (e.g. courses) if you explicitly agree to this use in the declaration of consent.
